Aluminum or Stainless Steel?
Aluminum:The aluminum tops are built with 7/8ths in. double wall bright
dipped anodized aluminum tube, black annealed nylon and nylon graphite
fittings, the hardware is all stainless steel. They are structurally
equal to the stainless steel models. The aluminum models weigh less
than 20 lb. and are better suited for small consoles, smaller boats,
inflatable boats and anyone who requires the light weight of aluminum.
Any boat built of aluminum should use the aluminum models to prevent
corrosive electrolysis. Aluminum is a softer metal so it will scratch
more easily, flex more than stainless steel and the anodized bright
dipped finish will dull down over time. However, aluminum is well suited
for marine use. The aluminum frames will require no maintenance and
should last at least as long as the boat.
Stainless Steel:Our
polished stainless steel models will complement any boat and match
the high quality of any factory installed stainless rails and fittings.
The stainless steel models are built with .065 wall polished 316
stainless tube, stainless steel fittings and stainless steel hardware.
The metal is hard to scratch and will flex very little. The finish
will not corrode with salt water use. An occasional polishing will
maintain the gleaming luster
of the bright stainless finish well beyond the life of the boat. The
tops weigh more than the aluminum models, about 42 to 55 lb., depending
on size. Due to electrolysis, stainless steel should not be used for
aluminum boats.
We manufacture the Console Mount Top in 4
x 5 and 4. 5 x 6 foot models in both metals.
The 5 by 7 foot top is only available in “H” Mount models
in both metals. We manufacture both the 4. 5 x 6 and 5
x 7 foot “H” Mount tops in both
metals.
